Hand-painted white and gold Christmas tree artwork created by Dana Harding of Dana’s Uncommon Glass.

🎄 Behind the Art: Our Holiday Giveaway Reveal

There’s something magical about the holiday season — the shimmer, the sparkle, and the joy of giving. This year, I wanted to do something a little extra special for all of you who have supported my art and small business — so I created a one-of-a-kind, hand-painted holiday artwork that one lucky person will win in our Holiday Art Giveaway!

The Inspiration

I’ve always loved how light plays against texture, and this year I wanted to bring that magic into a festive art piece. The result is this hand-painted Christmas tree canvas — layered with Venetian plaster, sculpting paste, and gold accents for a rich, dimensional finish.

This piece sparkles beautifully in the light, with hundreds of tiny details that reflect the same heart and craftsmanship I pour into every tote bag I paint.

🎨 The Process

Step 1: Building texture with Venetian plaster

Dana Harding applying Venetian plaster to a blank canvas.

Every great piece begins with a foundation! I used Venetian plaster to give the canvas a beautiful, tactile surface.

Step 2: Painting the background

Dana painting the dark brown background on a holiday art piece.

Next came the rich, moody black backdrop — the perfect contrast for the white tree I had envisioned.

Step 3: Adding depth and shimmer

Adding gold shimmer to the painted background.

Using a touch of gold and texture, I gave the background that subtle sparkle that makes the finished piece glow.

Step 4: The final reveal!

Finished white and gold Christmas tree artwork on black background.

After layering and sealing the piece, the tree came to life — elegant, dimensional, and ready to brighten someone’s home this holiday season.
